About Me

So, yeah, what about me??  Am I a highly organized, growth-oriented, multi-tasker, who is a hard worker and has meticulous attention to detail?  Sure, that’s what my resume objective has laid out for years.  That’s not the full picture, though.  Those are my traits, but those aren’t at the core of why I do what I do and how I do it.

It all started with my dad’s business.  He brought me on as a bookkeeper when I was 18.  I didn’t do much more than simple data entry and paying bills. However, I learned that administrative tasks came easy to me.  Fast forward to changing my major to Management Accounting (University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, class of 2001), scoring an internship at Sony, where I learned to master Microsoft Excel, shifting around to various accounting positions in the corporate world, helping entrepreneur friends with their books, and finally settling in with my own bookkeeping business.

There are three things I value the most about having my own business:

I value the connection I develop with my clients and their businesses.  One of the favorite parts about my work is learning about a business and the person or people behind it.  Hearing the start-up stories and a client’s “why” helps me see the big picture and better understand their needs.

I value how small businesses can strengthen community bonds.  Being able to walk down to my local coffee shop and chat with the owner about how their kiddo is doing after fighting a cold last week is far more appealing than having a computerized espresso shot thrust at me through an uncaffeinated crowd of people.  With me behind the scenes managing the books, it gives time back to business owners to strengthen connections with their client base, driving referrals and, in turn, more commerce for other business owners in the community.

I value lending compassion to my clients who have been struggling with how to set up an accounting workflow or who have a growing business and can’t keep up with the administrative tasks any longer.  This isn’t a place for judgement and things usually aren’t as unmanageable as a business owner thinks.  You didn’t do or not do anything.  What you did was start a business that’s seeing success on a level that created a need for bookkeeping services.  A win for both of us!
