My name is Allicia, and I am the owner of Safe Space Scents. How did this all begin? A lot of courage and supportive people backing me the entire time. The idea of creating a woman and lgbtq+ owned candle business started around the spring of 2021. I knew for a long time I had always wanted to open my own business, but I never believed that this would be something I could do. Creating candles and other crafts for friends and family for years. During the holidays of 2021, people were saying I had something good going on. These candles were some of the best they have been able to burn and have in their homes. Hearing this, I really started looking into the opportunities and researching. I was thinking, "how can I make this dream my reality?"
At the time of the launch of Safe Space Scents in May of 2022, I also worked 40+ hours a week for an HR job. Just a few short months later, in November 2022, some crazy life stuff happened, and that's when I realized I could REALLY go and make my dream a reality. Be the inclusive small business owner that the world needs more of. I get to fully live a part of my dreams and have achieved a goal that I did not think I could make. The people I have met along this journey have been incredible, and I am thankful every day for them. Getting to see and hear from other lgbtq+ people and how exciting it is to have this little shop here in central Pennsylvania is such exciting news.
I want to continue to positively impact others, just as they have done for me. I know to some, they are just some candles but let the scents take you back to positive core memories in life. Create more memories, and when you smell it again, you can think of it fondly as the experience you had.
